Beginning at Clark Gulch avoids 2 miles of intense washboard. Surface varies between firm hardback, loose sand, and chatter. Receives frequent county maintenance. Beautiful scenery, light vehicle traffic. Turn around at a gorgeous Forest Service campground.

Ridden July 2019: first 5 miles from US285 north of Jefferson even worse than the 'intense washboard' mentioned in the route description. Recommend Rock Creek Hills Rd from Tarryall Rd south of Jefferson as a better way to get in. The road condition actually improves as you head east, the last 10 miles before the Lost Creek campground really scenic and great riding.
